I had a truly memorable experience at a camp in the dunes. Following the instructions provided, I easily reached the camp with a 30-minute drive from Al Wasil in a 4WD. The location of the camp, right at the foot of a large dune, allowed us to climb up and witness a breathtaking sunset in the desert. The Bedouin-style tents provided basic but comfortable accommodation, with warm quilts and mosquito nets on the beds. The open-air bathrooms with showers and western toilets were conveniently located nearby. The breakfast and dinner served at the camp were delicious and well-presented. To truly immerse oneself in the desert experience, I highly recommend staying at least 2 nights.

fantastic yellow-orange dunes surround this camp in the middle of the desert. staff is extremely friendly so you feel at home the very first minute you are at camp. fine tents made of goat hair, clean bathrooms with all the facilities that you get in a city hotel. dinners are plentiful and tasty. we did dune bashing and that was an absolute roller-coaster fun. then visited a bedoun family house and that was fun as well. In the desert we made incredible photos like the ones you see in National Geographic. beautiful sunsets and a billion stars are on the house every nite. and last but not the least – desert has a huge plus – lots of parking!

I enjoyed the Arabian food and barbeque every night, as well as the camel rides and dune bashing. The starry sky over the camp was breathtaking.
Who needs clear communication or organized activities anyway? It's all part of the charm!

To stay in a Bedouinshelter in the desert
The electrcal lighting was switched off at 20.00 hr in the evening. The generator was making to much noise was the reason. It liks me better to purchage a generator with less noise than to find your bed in the darkness. We would like to have in such lokation an all-in price, because their is no alternative. Prices for food are reasonable.

Great camp in desert with all you need to enjoy the pure wild nature around you. You are in the typical beduin tent with sand around you and stars above you. Great plus a bathroom outside the tent with open roof :). The camp is kind of self-reflection to the personality of his owner: Humaid good luck and keep on improving your camp to eco-friendly desert oasis ;)

The Desert Retreat Camp offered a truly memorable glamping experience in the middle of the desert. the luxury accommodations and friendly staff made our stay enjoyable. Sleeping under the stars and watching the sunrise over the sand dunes were unforgettable highlights. the camel ride was a fun and perfect introduction to the desert. the tents were spacious and had their own toilets and showers, which was impressive for a retreat in the middle of nowhere. highly recommended to anyone visiting Oman.

Very nice place with friendly staff.we were five friends. Rooms are very clean and made with traditional tents. It is incredible to have a bathroom far in the desert. Meeting point is at al maha petrol station in al wasil? We will return there from abu dhabi.

Great location. 20 km off main road but accessible by easy 4x4 driving. Very nice welcome. Owner and staff very friendly and good additional activities (dune bashing, camel rides at the time and pace we wanted). Next to a huge dune excellent for climbing. Private toilets.
Dinner erratic (first batch chicken burnt - 2nd delicious), no dessert and expensive. Generator never worked which while not their fault could have been handled better (a simple sorry - maybe a few rials off?). Charged full price for ride back and forth to camp even though shared with another guest. Both of our tents did not close. Owner explained a hand-made error but there should still be a remedy (make an additional flap). My biggest complant was the lack of atmosphere at dinner = no music like a simple drummer and singer.

The location of the camp was absolutely stunning, nestled next to a massive sand dune and far enough from civilization to truly appreciate the night sky. Sitting around the open fire after a delicious dinner was a truly pleasant experience. the camp owner was a friendly and welcoming gentleman who made us feel right at home.
The overpriced transportation fee, which we had to share with another couple to make it more affordable. It would have been nice if the staff, aside from the owner, spoke more conversational English so we could have interacted with them more.

This was an absolutely fantastic location, right in the middle of the desert. It was some 20Kms in over dunes, past camels and beyond the towns. Firstly arrive by 4x4 over massive sand dunes, then welcomed in traditional Bedouin tents, then climb sand dunes, watch sunsets, followed by a whole host of other pleasant surprises, good food and attentive staff catering - which I want tell not to spoil your treat when you get there. I fully recommend this Camp. It was a really original setting, not too plush or phoney in any way and which you would never forget nor ever regret visiting. Staff were great and helpful too.
The costs soon added up to make this quite pricey. Meal, plus car in from the nearest town. However the cost was nothing compared to the quality of the experience. I'll never forget or regret any excess cost.
